New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has proposed requiring the City Clerk's office to inform same-sex couples of states where they can legally marry when they apply for a domestic partnership. Quinn believes that when state lawmakers see the number of couples traveling elsewhere for their nuptials, they will reconsider their opposition to marriage equality (NY1). New York State does not offer same-sex marriage, although it does recognize legal same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions.
